‎[" The Artist "] - ‎ ‎Nicholas Penny, Robert Flynn Johnson ; Lucian Freud‎

‎Lucian Freud : Works on Paper‎

‎, Thames & Hudson, 1988 Hardcover, 128 pages, ENG, 285 x 260 mm, dustjacket, book is as new, with illustrations in color and b/w, here and there some texts underlined with pencil, better that than with a ballpoint pen, apart from that, the book is really as new. ISBN 9780500091852.‎

‎Lucian Michael Freud ( 8 December 1922 - 20 July 2011) was a British painter and draughtsman, specialising in figurative art, and is known as one of the foremost 20th-century English portraitists. He was born in Berlin, the son of Jewish architect Ernst L. Freud and the grandson of Sigmund Freud. Freud got his first name "Lucian" from his mother in memory of the ancient writer Lucian of Samosata. His family moved to England in 1933 to escape the rise of Nazism. From 1942 to 1943 he attended Goldsmiths College, London. He served at sea with the British Merchant Navy during the Second World War. His early career as a painter was influenced by surrealism, but by the early 1950s his often stark and alienated paintings tended towards realism. Freud was an intensely private and guarded man, and his paintings, completed over a 60-year career, are mostly of friends and family. They are generally sombre and thickly impastoed, often set in unsettling interiors and urban landscapes. The works are noted for their psychological penetration and often discomforting examination of the relationship between artist and model. Freud worked from life studies, and was known for asking for extended and punishing sittings from his models‎

‎LUCIAN FREUD. THE PAINTER'S ETCHINGS,‎

‎New York, Museum of Modern Art, 2007 Bound, full blue cloth, illustrated dustjacket, 225 x 310mm., 144pp., profoundly illustrated in colour and b/w. ISBN 9780870707063.‎

‎One of the foremost figurative artists working today, Lucian Freud has redefined portraiture and the nude through his unblinking scrutiny of the human form. Although he is best known as a painter, etching is integral to his practice. Lucian Freud: The Painter's Etchings accompanies an exhibition that will present the full scope of Freud's etchings, including some 75 works, from the rare early experiments in the 1940s to the increasingly complex compositions he has created since rediscovering the medium in the early1980s. The catalogue will also include a selection of paintings and drawings, illluminating the crucial, cross-pollinating relationship between Freud's etchings and his paintings. New book.‎

‎LUCIAN FREUD De zelfportretten‎

‎, Tijdsbeeld-Piece Montée, 2019 Gebonden, Hardcover 260 x 230 mm, 160 pages, 130 colour illustrations Nederlandstalige uitgave . ISBN 9789490880255.‎

Pulitzer Prize-winnaar en kunstcriticus Sebastian Smee is auteur van The Art of Rivalry: Four Friendships, Betrayals and Throughthroughs in Modern Art (2016). ‎Lucian Freud's Sketchbooks ‎

‎, Yale, 2016 Hardcover, 108 pages, ENG, 230 x 230 x 19 mm, New edition, illustrated in colour / b/w. ISBN 9780300223736.‎

‎This revelatory publication features a selection of beautifully reproduced images from the sketchbooks of Lucian Freud (1922-2011), one of the world?s greatest realist painters. Most of the sketches ? which include works in pencil, pastel, and watercolor from across the artist?s long career ? are published here for the first time. These fascinating images extend our understanding of Freud?s work and demonstrate the scrutiny he brought to his subjects. The sketchbooks, now in the archive of the National Portrait Gallery, London, include portraits of Freud?s family members, friends, and lovers. Designs for book covers, images of his beloved dogs and horses, landscapes, and interiors appear among nudes, still lifes, and several sketches that relate to major works. Around and between the drawings are Freud?s annotations and jottings ? appointments, racing tips, notes, musings ? which, with startling immediacy, provide a glimpse into the working life of one of the 20th century?s most important artists. The book includes an insightful essay by Martin Gayford, who sat for portraits by Freud and knew him well, and an illustrated chronology of the artist?s life. Published in association with the National Portrait Gallery, London‎

‎LUCIAN FREUD Les autoportraits‎

‎, Mercatorfonds/ Fonds Mercator, 2019 HB, 280 x 230 mm, 144 p, 120 illustrations FR edition. ISBN 9789462301511.‎
