Fine set constituting one of the final collected works by the Cobra art group which dissolved in 1951.The Cobra art movement was a significant avant-garde art movement that emerged in the years immediately following World War II. The term ""Cobra"" is derived from the names of the three major cities involved: Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. The Cobra movement is also known as CoBrA, with each letter representing one of the cities. Cobra was founded in 1948 by a group of artists who wanted to create a new kind of art that was spontaneous, experimental, and often characterized by vibrant colors, expressive brushwork, and a childlike quality. The movement emphasized freedom of expression, collaboration, and a rejection of traditional artistic conventions. Cobra had a profound impact on modern art, influencing subsequent movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Art Brut. Its emphasis on spontaneity and intuitive creativity helped shape the direction of art in the mid-20th century Asger Jorn played a central role in the formation of Cobra. He advocated for a return to primal artistic instincts and embraced elements of folk art, mythology, and symbolism. “Jorn traveled to France where in the autumn of 1948 he, together with Christian Dotremont and Constant, founded COBRA (a European avant-garde art movement), and edited monographs of the Bibliothèque Cobra. However by 1949 Jorn had started a relationship with Matie van Domselaer, the daughter of the composer Jakob van Domselaer. This caused tension in the COBRA group with the Dutch artists boycotting a conference held at Bregnerød later that year. Publié à loccasion de lexposition, Cobra, la couleur spontanée, ce livre retrace laventure unique qui fait de Cobra une véritable explosion artistique et poétique au cur du XXe siècle. Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Cobra est plus quun groupe ou un mouvement artistique. Il représente une nouvelle manière de vivre, une « utopie réelle » qui se définit par linteraction entre les individus, les arts, les pays et la vie. Fondé à Paris en 1948, Cobra réunit des artistes et des poètes européens qui revendiquent une entière liberté de création. Ils forment une Internationale des artistes expérimentaux dont les fondateurs sont le Danois Asger Jorn, les Néerlandais Karel Appel, Constant et Corneille et les Belges Christian Dotremont et Joseph Noiret. De 1948 à 1951, les membres allemands, anglais, belges, danois, islandais, français, néerlandais et suédois prennent part à la publication de la revue Cobra et à l?organisation d?expositions et de rencontres internationales. En décembre 1951, le groupe se sépare à la suite de la II e Exposition internationale d?art expérimental organisée à Liège. Si le groupe se disperse, l?esprit de Cobra perdure. Il irrigue désormais certains des principaux courants de l?art international des années 1950 aux années 1970 au sein desquels les membres de Cobra sont des acteurs essentiels.
