Épidermures sur le dos.
Prépublication séparée de cette étude. Pour comprendre la mention du titre sur l'insertion ultérieure du texte, il faut rappeler que les quatre volumes des Études sur les ponts en pierre remarquables par leur décoration, ont paru dans l'ordre suivant : deuxième en 1907, troisième et quatrième en 1909, et enfin premier en 1912 seulement.Le Strasbourgeois Ferdinand ou Fernand de Dartein (1838-1912), polytechnicien, fut un ingénieur des ponts et chaussées et architecte, également dessinateur, peintre, graveur et historien de l'art. Né à Châlons-sur-Marne, Latouche-Loisy (1694-1781) fut toute sa vie un homme aux talents les plus divers : c'est comme dessinateur et peintre, qu'il fut choisi pour réaliser la décoration extérieure des arcs de triomphe rémois érigés à l'occasion du Sacre de Louis XV. Par la suite, très peu d'oeuvres certainement attribuables ont été conservées, alors qu'il produisit portraits, miniatures, décorations d'églises et de monuments, etc., jusqu'à ce que son état de santé dégradé l'obligea en 1766 à se retirer.
