".: 4. Kassel, 4th april 1766, holograph letter in the hand of Johann Jacob Bierbrauer ( author - publisher active in Kassel in the middle of the 18th century). In-folio, 4 pp , 34 x 20,5 cm, 3 pp written, letter has black margins. Finely preserved , apart from a few inkstains. Nearly complete transcription (in German) is available. The author Johann Jacob Bierbrauer writes to the Council of the Flemish town Brugge ( Bruges - Brügge ) to try to sell a Dutch translation of his 1758 publication on delinquency in Germany '' Beschreibung Derer Berüchtigten Jüdischen Diebes-, Mörder und Rauber-Banden ; Welche seither geraumen Jahren, hin und wieder im Reich....vornehmlich jiesigen Hochfürstlichen...''. He claims that his text helps to fight criminality . He does not fail to mention that if an order follows there will be someting in it for the council. ( a douceur as he calls it, in French in the text). This sort of letter illustrating the business practice of a small 18th c. German publisher-author is very rare. The author is only known for 2 publications , both on this subject and both very rare. [ ; antisemitism ; manuscript ; letter ; history of printing ; bibliography ; ]."
