XVII,455 pp. + Appendix, 8 chromolithographed plates (incl. frontispiece, Kane del., Vincent Brooks, lith.) and 1 folded engraved and coloured map. Plates as well as text exceptionally clean. Fine woodengravings in the text.‎


‎First edition of this famous first-hand description of the North-American Indians. The author, a Canadian painter, traversed, almost alone, the teritories of the Red River Settlement, the Valley of Saskatchewan across the Rocky Mountains, down the Columbia River the shores of Puget Sound, and Vancouver's Island. It is an interesting collection of the incidents of life and travel, among the Indian tribes inhabiting the Regions over which he passed. - Sabin 37007.‎
