Buchanan, William: Memoirs of painting, with a chronological history of the importation of pictures by the great masters into England since the French Revolution. 2 volumes. Buchanan 1777-1864 Lawyer and the great art dealer of his day, who imported paintings from post revolutionary Europe, in 1819 he purchased the entire collection of Dutch & Flemish paintings that belonged to Talleyrand. By 1896 one third of the pictures in the National Gallery had, at one time or another, passed through his hands. The first 200 pages of the first volume are devoted to the sales of the Orleans paintings, listing the works and most prices and buyers.
