Bij deze tentoonstelling verschijnt een grondig gedocumenteerde en rijk ge llustreerde catalogus die een prachtig overzicht geeft van Matthew Wongs werk. Het werk van deze Chinees-Canadese kunstenaar is kleurrijk en expressief. Van de vele kunstenaars door wie hij zich liet inspireren was Vincent van Gogh een van de belangrijkste. De parallellen tussen de levens van Wong en Van Gogh zijn treffend. Zowel Van Gogh als Wong zochten lang naar een roeping in het leven, en vonden deze uiteindelijk in het schilderen. Beiden waren autodidact, hadden een korte, zeer productieve carri re en worstelden met hun mentale gezondheid, tot aan hun vroegtijdige dood. Ook schilderden ze beiden met felle, contrasterende kleuren en hielden ze van dik aangebrachte verf. In de catalogus wordt deze verwantschap nader onderzocht.
