Un volume petit in-12°, reliure veau de l’époque, roulette à froid en encadrement sur les plats, dos à 5 nerfs ornés, roulette sur les coupes. L’ouvrage proprement dit comprend 343 pages; il est divisé en deux parties : la première qui contient 39 jeux intégralement décrits, la deuxième qui s’intitule ainsi: “ Livre 2ème contenant diverses manières de jouer le gambit” ; l’auteur y propose en 55 chapitres 55 problèmes d’échec et leur solution. Précisons que Gioachino GRECO, dit le Calabrais (1600-1634), fut à la fois un auteur et un joueur d’échecs renommé en son temps. Il battit les plus grands joueurs et fut considéré comme un des premiers théoriciens du jeu d’échecs. Il inventa nombre de combinaisons dont l’une est toujours nommée le “mat de GRECO”. La 1ère édition de cet ouvrage, en italien, date de 1619. La première traduction en français est de 1669. La reliure de notre exemplaire présente quelques légères «épidermures”. Son état reste cependant TRÈS SATISFAISANT.

Het oeuvre van El Greco (1541-1614) is eeuwenlang in de vergeethoek geraakt. In 1908 plaatste de kunsthistoricus Manuel Bartolome Cossio hem echter weer helemaal op de voorgrond.
