Paris. Ambroise Vollard 1935. 1 volume in-4 (340 x 270 mm) en feuilles, couverture imprimée rempliée. Célèbre édition illustrée de 34 compositions dont 22 GRAVURES SUR CUIVRE EN HORS-TEXTE DONT 4 EN COULEURS SUR JAPON et 12 bois dont certains en hors-texte gravés par Aubert. Table des illustrations en fin d'ouvrage. Les gravures furent réalisées par Maurice Potin d'après les monotypes d' Edgar Degas (1834-1917) achetés par Ambroise Vollard à René Degas avant la vente de l'atelier du peintre. Vollard entreprit l'édition de deux ouvrages : Mimes des Courtisanes de Pierre Louÿs et La Maison Tellier de Guy de Maupassant. Il s'adressa au peintre-graveur Maurice Potin pour reproduire sur cuivre ces scènettes de maisons closes que Degas appelait lui-même ses "petits plats du jour". M. Potin réussit à merveille à pénètrer la sensibilité du dessin et la subtilité des tons de Degas. L'entreprise prit 6 ans aux deux hommes pour faire paraître les deux ouvrages. Tirage unique à 350 exemplaires numérotés sur vélin de Rives. English: 1 book, 4to (340 x270 mm), on loose sheets under the original printed grey wrappers. 34 compositions after Degas (1834-1917) comprising 22 copper etchings outside the text by Maurice Potin after Edgar Degas (4 in color printed on japan paper) and 12 woodcuts by Aubert. Here is 1 of the 325 numbered copies printed on vélin de Rives paper.
