DIVA will be inviting renowned designers and curators for a contemporary interpretation of the Wunderkammer, a chamber exhibiting a collection of art and curiosities, objects from every corner of the globe. The Wunderkammer stems from Antwerp's illustrious past, for until the middle of the seventeenth century the city led the way in the production and distribution of art and luxury goods. Silverware, jewellery, precious stones and exotic curiosities like coconuts, shells and coral were highly sought-after. Axel Vervoordt, after his famous series of biennal exhibitions at the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, will take the lead. The catalogue published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Axel Vervoordt, Wonderkamer 1' at the new Diamond Museum Antwerp is the 2nd issue of an affordable series of DIVA 'magazines', opening and sharing the reclused world of luxury arts and crafts. Axel Vervoordt (?°1947, Antwerp, Belgium) has earned renown as a collector, antiquarian, interior designer and, most recently, curator. Counting among his clientele royalty, rock stars, financiers, tech tycoons and artists, he is one of the world's foremost tastemakers. Inquiries into the nature of being and concepts of time and space are what most compel him; he conveys his views through his inspired arrangements of objects and interiors. To some, expressing the lofty in the material might seem contradictory, but Vervoordt believes that, as in a Zen koan, truth can be contained in paradox and ambiguity.

200 jaar geleden werd in Antwerpen Constance Teichmann geboren. Ooit was ze alom bekend, nu is ze bijna vergeten. Nochtans leeft de nalatenschap van deze intrigerende vrouw voort tot op vandaag in het Centrum Louise-Marie vzw, en is ze een van de interessantst mogelijke gidsen door het Antwerpen van de 19de eeuw. Als gouverneursdochter bewoog ze zich voortdurend in gegoede kringen, en als sublieme sopraan genoot ze intens van de podia van luisterrijke concertzalen en het applaus van de haute bourgeoisie. Zo ontmoette ze de grootste componisten van haar tijd en had ze een persoonlijke band met onder andere Peter Benoit. Tegelijk ontfermde Constance zich over de allerarmsten. Ze was de bezielster van het kinderziekenhuis Louise-Marie (1846-1997), bij generaties Antwerpenaren nog altijd een begrip, en voelde zich niet te beroerd om tijdens de cholera-epidemieën eigenhandig patiënten te verzorgen. In de volksmond kreeg ze de naam ?goede engel van Antwerpen?. Dit boek biedt een bevoorrechte inkijk in het leven van deze devote diva, die zich heen en weer geslingerd voelde tussen een diep geloof waarin zorg centraal stond, en een hartstochtelijke artistieke roeping als zangeres, dirigente, pianiste en organiste. Het put nieuwe gegevens en beelden uit het omvangrijke familiearchief, dat in 2019 op aansturen van de auteurs gedeponeerd werd in het Letterenhuis Antwerpen, en gidst de lezer in de voetsporen van Teichmann door de 19de-eeuwse Scheldestad, van de nog open Sint-Jansvliet tot het lusthovenrijke buitengebied de Lei. Net als de mysterieuze jonge vrouw met de lichtblauwe kapmantel in het schilderij van Georges Morren, flaneerde Constance ook in het Harmoniepark, wilskrachtig doch weifelend op zoek naar haar eigen pad.
