‎Petit in-12 (143 x 86 mm), basane marron, dos à cinq nerfs orné, pièce de titre havane, dentelle sur les coupes, tranches rouges (reliure d'époque). Edition originale, rare. Guy du Faur, seigneur de Pibrac (1529 - 1584), fut magistrat, diplomate et poète. En 1562 Charles IX le choisit pour être un de ses ambassadeurs au Concile de Trente. En 1573 il rédige une apologie du massacre de la Saint-Barthélémy, épître latine répandue dans toute l'Europe, qui lui fut reprochée sévèrement. Chancelier de la reine Marguerite de Navarre, il lui adressa des lettres passionnées mais elle se moqua de lui auprès de ses courtisans. Ex-libris Capitaine Gimon. (défauts d'usage, petits manques de cuir aux coiffes, coins émoussés, tâche sur le titre, légères mouillures sur les 45 premières pages, quelques petites déchirures, erreurs de pagination, rousseurs). // Small 12o (143 x 86 mm), brown roan, spine tooled raised on five bands, havana title label, dentelle on turns-in, red edges (contemporary binding). Rare first edition. Guy du Faur, seigneur de Pibrac (1529 - 1584), was a magistrate, diplomat and poet. In 1562 Charles IX choosed him as one of his ambassadors at Concile de Trente. In 1573 he publlished an apology of Saint-Barthelemy massacre, latin epistle spread through Europe, which he was severely reproached for. Chancellor of queen Marguerite de Navarre, he addressed passionate letters to her, but she made fun of him with her courtiers. Bookplate Capitaine Gimon. (defects of use, small lack of leather on top and bottom of spine, corners used, stain on title page, light water-stains on the 45 first pages, some little tearings, mistakes in the pages numbering, brownings). ‎
