Ambiguity and contradiction are the twin hallmarks of the paintings, drawings and films of Michaël Borremans (b. 1963). He deploys his technical virtuosity to create apparently familiar scenes, which on closer inspection have an unsettling effect. He combines black humour, violence, absurdism and beauty to produce images that are strange and alienating, in which the subject seems to be situated in an undefined time and space. This catalogue provides an overview of Michaël Borremans' work since 2013. The majority of the works have never been published before. The book focuses on the different series of paintings he has exhibited over recent years: 'Black Mould', 'Fire From the Sun' and 'Coloured Cones'. Working in series is a recent development in Borremans' oeuvre. Michaël Borremans has staged solo exhibitions in a variety of venues, including Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague, CAC Málaga, Dallas Museum of Art, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, BOZAR in Brussels, Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, The Cleveland Museum of Art, S.M.A.K. in Ghent, De Appel in Amsterdam and Parasol Unit in London.Overzicht van alle reeksen schilderijen van Michaël Borremans sinds 2013 De schilderijen, tekeningen en films van Michaël Borremans (°1963) worden gekenmerkt door ambiguïteit en contradictie. Deze catalogus biedt een overzicht van alle werken die Michaël Borremans sinds 2013 in reeksen heeft geconcipieerd. Het gaat hierbij om zeven verschillende series, onder meer Black Mould, Fire from the Sun? en Girl with Hands. De meeste van deze werken werden nooit eerder gepubliceerd. Het werken in reeksen is een recente ontwikkeling in het oeuvre van Borremans.
