Shorthouse, whose bookplate and signature both appear in this book, was an English novelist (1834-1903), influenced by Ruskin and Pre-Raphaelitism, author of the influential 'John Inglesant' among other works. he was also a a prolific 'book plater.' His bookplate appears in numerous bookseller's catalogues. PATRICK, SIMON (Symon) (16261707) was Bishop of Ely.
