Original red cloth pictorially stamped in black and white (in a design by the author) on covers, lettered in white on front cover, and pictorially stamped and lettered in white on spine. White pigment flaking a little, mainly on the spine, but far less than usual. With slipcase. Minimal foxing to endpapers. [6], 249, [2] 22 plates by Kipling.
First edition of one of Kipling's best known and most beloved works.

London, Macmillan and Co, 1902, format small in-4°, ( 22,8 x 17,2 cm) , 249 pp. First edition, first printing with the 1902 date printed on the title page. Bound in full red morocco, spine gilt decorated, with gilt title. Front cover with gilt decoration (an elephant with a palmtree), single fillet on both covers Paste down : marbled paper within a composite floral fillet frame. All edges gilt. The original cloth frontwrapper has been preserved and bound in at the end. (Elephant fighting a crocodile). and also with a flawless interior. Very fine binding in near perfect condition ( nothwithstanding some slight abrasion of the original front wrapper.)..
