‎John Standing in the Woods, Margot Liberty. Cheyennes Memories. In Russian /Dzhon Stoit v Lesu, Margot Liberti. Vospominaniya shayena. The book covers the period from legendary times to the first reservation years, and is a unique work about American Indians that preserves the history of that people. John Standing in the Forest, a northern Cheyenne whose grandfather was killed in the battle with Caster, was born in 1884. From an early age, he began collecting descriptions of Cheyenne rituals, which were an essential part of their existence, and in 1905 he decided to become the custodian of the oral traditions of the tribe. John Standing in the Forests collaboration with anthropologist Margot Liberti, which began in 1956, lasted more than a decade.
