‎SLND [France, circa 1800]. 1 vol in-folio (420 x 300 mm) de : [1] f blanc, 65 planches manuscrites à double page montées sur onglets, la plupart de 550 x 400 mm et une dizaine d'un format plus petit d'environ 450 x 330 mm, exécutées sur papier vélin épais filigrané dans un encadrement à double filet à l'encre, au lavis et à l'aquarelle dans , [1] f de table rédigé à l'encre noire sur 2 colonnes, donnant 73 numéros dont : 18, 27, 28, 33 ne sont pas présentes et 42, 43, 44, 45 non titrées. (Salissures, taches et défauts d'usage). Plein vélin de l'époque recouvert de papier à la colle bleu, dos lisse avec étiquette de titrage effacée. (manques de papier et défauts d'usage).‎

‎Remarquable recueil de dessins darchitecture exécuté à lencre, au lavis et à laquarelle par un compagnon menuisier vers 1800. Le site « passage » de la bibliotéque nationale de France indique : « Le terme "menuisier" provient du latin minutiare (rendre menu). Car, contrairement au charpentier qui travaille les grosses pièces de bois, le menuisier nuvre que sur des petites pièces (mobilier, volets, panneaux, parquets). Il est aussi appelé "charpentier de petite cognée". Si cette distinction est effective en 1280, le métier de menuisier sest parfois confondu avec celui débéniste ou de lambrisseur. On pouvait également appeler les menuisiers en fonction de leurs spécialités : huchers, huchiers, ou faiseurs de huche (spécialistes des meubles), huissiers faiseurs dhuis (spécialistes des portes et des fenêtres), lambrisseurs (murs intérieurs et plafonds) Pendant lAncien Régime, les menuisiers faisaient partie de la grande corporation des Charpentiers » « À la fin du 18e siècle, certaines traditions ancestrales du métier de menuisier se voient bouleversées. La suppression des corporations par Turgot en 1776 libère les pratiques professionnelles : désormais, un ébéniste aura le droit de faire le travail du menuisier et vice versa. Le système de lapprentissage, hérité du Moyen Âge, vole en éclats : la transmission du savoir-faire sort dun modèle filial. Néanmoins, le système du compagnonnage demeure, même sil est affaibli par la Révolution industrielle qui voit un prolétariat peu qualifié et peu organisé. Les différentes sociétés de compagnonnage, souvent rivales, uvrent pour la défense et la formation des ouvriers et artisans. Létat de compagnon sobtient après sêtre formé auprès dun maître dapprentissage, mais aussi après avoir fait son tour de France, au cours duquel laspirant compagnon rencontre des maîtres et étudie leurs techniques. Le tour de France peut durer plusieurs années et sachève par la réalisation dun "chef-duvre". Le présent manuscrit est typique de luvre dun compagnon menuisier de lépoque postrévolutionnaire. Le titre effacé au dos de la reliure laisse lire « Pejoine, compagnon ». La planche N° 1 indique des mesures en pied, donc un travail réalisé avant la loi du 1er janvier 1840 interdisant l'usage des anciennes mesures. Ce type de recueil était produit au terme de sa formation et ensuite utilisé au cours de la carrière de lartisan. Véritable manuel technique exécuté à léchelle, notre manuscrit comporte un très large éventail des différentes réalisations ou projet de cet habile menuisier dont la table in fine donne la longue liste : huisseries extérieures (croisées, volets, éventails, persiennes, portes palières et dallées, portes cochères, portes de serres ; les types de lambris et de planchers dart (en capucine, bâtons rompus, fougère, en feuilles, à compartiments, à étoile, à chaine ou entrelacé ; plan dun intérieur de magasin et ses comptoirs, équipements, devanture, portes ; équipements de bâtiments religieux et funéraires : autels, confessionnal, stalles ; tous types descaliers : demi briquet, octogone, anglais, demi-fond, demi-ovale, à briquet, rond, ovale, en S, mixte, conique, triangulaire, à limaçon, à corps de chasse, en 8 ; plafond dassemblage, , corniches Les planches 67 à 73 expliquent des techniques de collage et dassemblage : « manière de coller les arcs bombés en plan », manière de coller les arrières de voussures de Marseille » 8 planches de la table sont absente du recueil, dont 4 laissées en blanc nont sans doute pas été réalisées. A remarkable collection of architectural drawings executed in ink, wash, and watercolor by a journeyman carpenter around 1800. The Passage website of the National Library of France states: "The term carpenter comes from the Latin minutiare (to make small). For, unlike the carpenter who works with large pieces of wood, the joiner works only on small pieces (furniture, shutters, panels, parquet floors, etc.). He is also called a small-axe carpenter. While this distinction was established in 1280, the trade of joiner was sometimes conflated with that of cabinetmaker or paneler. The status of journeyman is attained after training with a master craftsman, but also after completing a tour of France, during which the aspiring journeyman meets masters and studies their techniques. The tour of France can last several years and culminates in the creation of a masterpiece. This manuscript is typical of the work of a journeyman carpenter from the post-Revolutionary era. The faded title on the back of the binding reads Pejoine, journeyman. Plate No. 1 shows measurements in feet, indicating that the work was completed before the law of January 1, 1840, which prohibited the use of the old measurements. This type of collection was produced at the end of the craftsmans training and then used throughout his career. A true technical manual executed to scale, our manuscript features a very wide range of the various works or projects by this skilled carpenter, a long list of which is provided in the table at the end: exterior door and window frames (crossed, shutters, fans, louvres, landing and passageway doors, carriage entrances, greenhouse doors; various types of paneling and decorative flooring (in capucine, herringbone, fern, leaf, compartmentalized, star, chain, or interlaced patterns; a plan of a store interior with its counters, fixtures, storefront, and doors; furnishings for religious and funerary buildings: altars, confessionals, stalls; all types of staircases: half-winding, octagonal, English, half-landing, half-oval, winding, round, oval, S-shaped, mixed, conical, triangular, spiral, hunting-style, figure-8; assembled ceilings, cornices Plates 67 through 73 explain gluing and assembly techniques: how to glue curved arches in plan view, how to glue the backs of Marseille voussures Eight plates from the table are missing from the collection, four of which have been left blank and were likely never produced. The set is in perfect condition, preserved in its very sturdy and functional original binding.‎
