A re-examination of Flemish painter Hugo Van Der Goes (c. 1440-1482/1483), centred on his important painting 'The Death of the Virgin', which has just undergone an extensive five-year restoration. Chapters include an analysis of 'The Death of the Virgin' before and after restoration, a look at its iconographical sources, a discussion of Van Der Goes' life and work, including a summation of his extant oeuvre and known patrons, and a consideration of his influence on contemporary painters, both at home and abroad.

Originele éénbladsdruk, Stadsbestuur Antwerpen, 16 Mei 1759 . Begintekst: PROCLAMATIE. Alsoo N. Van Der Goes oudt ontrent de 60. Jaeren, gaende een wynigh buckende met eene Krucke....
Antwerpen, Weduwe van Petrus Jouret, Stadts-drucker, 1759, in plano, 27 x 15,5 cm ( marges afgesneden). Met houtgravure titel-vignet en houtgravure initiaal ( 30 x 30 mm), opgeplakt op eigentijdse papieren drager. Herkomst: 18e eeuwse collectie van de Antwerpse Jezuïeten. (Veiling Walter Couvreur). Onderwerp: Eerste dagvaardiging van N. Van der Goes, wonende in de Groene Gang bij de Ridderstraat. (wegens de moord op zijn zoon Anthony van der Goes op 25 April 1759). Op hetzelfde blad een zelfde document gedateerd 19 Mei 1759, de tweede dagvaarding. Bijgevoegd. Een document IDEM , zijnde de derde dagvaardiging, gedateerd 2 juni 1759. Bijgevoegd: nog een ander document (15 Juni 1759) zijnde de vierde dagvaarding . In totaal dus 4 affiches geplakt op 3 bladen. Prijs voor het geheel..
