Dru Drury (1725–1803) war ein bedeutender britischer Entomologe und Silberschmied. Seine berühmte Insektensammlung umfasste mehr als 11’000 Exemplare und gehörte zu den bedeutendsten naturhistorischen Sammlungen des 18. Jahrhunderts. Mit den «Illustrations of Natural History» schuf Drury eines der bedeutendsten entomologischen Werke seiner Zeit. Die prächtig kolorierten Tafeln zeigen zahlreiche exotische Insekten aus Asien, Afrika und Amerika, darunter damals noch wenig bekannte Arten. Die aussergewöhnliche Genauigkeit der Darstellungen machte das Werk zu einer wichtigen Grundlage der späteren Insektenkunde. – Das Papier im Schnitt etwas gebräunt. Die Einbände geringfügig berieben. Insgesamt schönes und wohlerhaltenes Exemplar.
