Edizione del 1659 di questa raccolta di due opere del geografo tedesco Philipp Cluver (1580-1622) legate insieme in un unico volume. La prima è la celebre opera "Italia Nova", la descrizione dell'Italia Antica. All'interno sono presenti cinque mappe ripiegate: quattro dell'Italia e una mappa della città di Roma. La seconda opera dedicata alla Sicilia, Sardegna e Corsica antiche. Ampia descrizione della Sicilia, di Malta e della Sardegna. All'interno sono presenti due mappe (su quattro, risultano mancanti la mappa della Sardegna e della Corsica): della Sicilia e di Malta. Cluver era un conoscitore di letteratura classica e ricevette uno speciale incarico a Leiden come geografo e responsabile della biblioteca dell'università. Per redigere l'opera della sua vita non si basò solo su fonti dell'Antichità ma anche su appunti fatti durante i suoi viaggi e visite di lavoro. Notevole fu il suo contributo per la crezione della geografia storica. Cluver fornisce inoltre un primo resoconto del pianeta terra inclusa una discussione sulle zone climatiche, la sua rotazione, la navigazione nel mare e segni del Zodiaco. Bel frontespizio figurato. Inside there are five folded maps: four of Italy and one map of the city of Rome.the second work is dedicated to the Antique Islands of Sardinia, Sicily and Corsica. Wide description of Sicily, Malta and Sardinia.Inside there are two maps (on four, the maps of Sardinia and Corsica lack): of Sicily and Malta.Cluver was a connoisseur of classical literature, and received a special appointment in Leiden as a geographer and responsible for the university library. His life's work, however, would increasingly lie in describing the geography of the Classical Antiquity. He not only relied on literary sources from antiquity, but also on the notes he made during his travels and working visits. Herein lies his own specific contribution, a contribution that actually made him the founder of historical geography. Cluver provides a first description of Earth including a discussion of cliamte, his rotation, navigation in the sea and Zodiac Signs. /Binding in good conditions.
