(ca. 1835 ?), 2 vols in-4°, 28 x 22 cm, Vol. I; 58 steel engraved plates + ca. 120 nn pp ; Vol.II; steel engraved plates 59-114 (complete) + ca. 120 nn pp, uniform contemporary red half leather, smooth back gilt title and ornements, marbled boards and endpapers, binding signed at lower end of spine ''Schultes Rel. du Roi''. Apart from some light wear at the corners and ends of spine of the binding still a good copy with no foxing. This is the rare French edition of a work on the National Gallery in London which was first published in English. It is one of the highlights of ''interpretation engraving in steel''. This is a very rare copy ot the French translation. It contains at the beginning of vol.I , after the French typographical title the original English engraved title. The rest of the book is entirely in French..Very fine copy, without any foxing or staining, not even on the serpents."
