‎1863 [2], 176 p., 1 folded table, with lithographed title-page depicting tropical forest trees, monkeys, bats serpent and birds, somewhat later hcloth. Uncut copy. A very scarce book that is seldom offered for sale.With stamp (verso half-title) and ex libris (verso front cover with inscription ''Alles komt terecht'') of Wouter Nijhoff (1866-1947). He was the son of Martinus Nijhoff founder of the famous Dutch publishing firm bearing his name). Also on the verso side of the front cover is pasted a note stating that in 1872 the firm M. Nijhoff has bought the remaining copies from the original editor J.D. Sijbrandi.This charmimg book gives us an account of the primates and bats living in the Dutch Indies (now Indonesia): Java, Sumatra, Banka, Borneo, Celebes, Ternate, Ambon, Banda & Timor. It is interspersed with many personal accounts (the author lived for 20 years in the Dutch Indies).‎
