With a complete translation of the Arabic inscriptions, and an historical notice of the Kings of Granada, from the conquest of that city by the Arabs to the expulsion of the Moors, by Mr. Pasqual de Gayangos. Questa straordinaria opera, con testo in inglese e francese, cos composta:- Vol. I: cc.nn. 5 (frontesp., dedica, lista dei sottoscrittori, indice delle tavole, avviso), pp. 20 (nota storica), (102) di descrizione delle tavole, con una antiporta decorata in cromolitografia e 51 tavole litografate di cui: 2 piante colorate a mano, 3 tavv. a doppia pag., 1 pi volte ripieg. e 25 con bellissime immagini cromolitografiche + (aggiunta al fine) 1 tav. nn. con un grande finale in cromolito.- Vol. II: cc.nn. 2 (frontesp., indice delle tavole), con antiporta decorata pure in cromolitografia e con 87 figure numerate illustrate in 50 tavole litografate, di cui 42 sono magnifiche cromolitografie."Edizione originale" di questo monumento dell'editoria Vittoriana, celebre per le illustrazioni di uno dei pi belli e conosciuti esempi di architettura islamica in Spagna. Owen Jones intraprese un Grand Tour nel 1832 visitando prima l'Italia e poi la Grecia dove incontr l'architetto francese Jules Goury. Insieme decisero di andare in Egitto per studiare l'architettura islamica del Cairo e quindi proseguirono per Costantinopoli, prima di fermarsi a Granada dove ebbero la possibilit di contemplare e studiare la magnifica decorazione islamica dell'Alhambra. Quando Jones rientr a Londra decise di pubblicare i risultati dei loro studi, arrivando personalmente a far realizzare il nuovo processo della cromolitografia che permetteva magnifiche tonalit di colore. The Alhambra, along with L'Art Arabe by Prisse d'Avennes, represents one of the two great Victorian monuments in book form, dedicated to Islamic art. To day quite rare.Cfr.
