1874 Title page, 38 p., 8 lithographed plates with explanatory text leaves and captions, royal 4to, modern red cloth with original printed front cover laid on. Uncut. Very good. Rare.A beautifully illustrated monograph by the German palaeontologist and malacologist Hanns Bruno Geinitz (1814-1900) dealing with Cretaceous gastropods from southern Germany, many of which are new. With two dedications by the author. To the Czech palaeontologist and malacologist Franz Stoliczka (1838-1874) (crossed out) and to the Belgian geologist and palaeontologist Constantin Henri Gérard Louis Malaise (1834-1916). Probably Geinitz found out that Stoliczka had died (perhaps this copy was returned to him by the heirs), and, apparently, Malaise was not bothered receiving a “second hand” dedication copy.
