1898 iv, 245 p., 14 plates, of which the first 2 are chromolithographs, contemporary blind-tooled cloth.This is the scarce original edition, which was translated into German in 1904. Pictorial bookplate of Samuel Christian Schmucker "Truth is one" on front paste-down. Schmucker wrote "The Meaning of Evolution" (1913). Spine a bit scuffed, plates lightly spotted, otherwise a very good copy.
