Engraved and handcoloured frontispiece (De Wonderen Gods in de minst-geachte Schepselen). Printed general title (the variant title described by Horn & Schenkling, but the same as in Nissen ZBI). 6 printed ""Stuck""-titles with the year 1762. The general title bears the name Jan Christiaan Sepp. The ""Stuck""-titles bears the name Christiaan Sepp. (8),4,(2),44,20,30,100,8,32 pp. and 50 (all) fine engraved plates in fine original handcolouring. A very fine, clean copy on thick heavy paper and uncut.
First edition of the scarce first volume of this classic work on Lepidoptera, a work which Landwehr named ""The most important work on Dutch lepidoptera"". ""[The] First series started by Christiaan Andreas Sepp together with his son Jan Christiaan (1739-1811) published in issues and in the format after the model chosen by Roesel von Rosenhof"" Sepp followed his own path for the descriptions of butterflies and their illustrations. It has become the most important work on Dutch lepidoptera."" (Landwehr).Sepp was working from his own collection of preserved butterflies and insects, and both wrote and illustrated the work, using his own collection of preserved butterflies, caterpillars and chrysalides.
