1 volume in-8 (22,3 x 14,5 cm), veau fauve (reliure de l’époque), dos à nerfs sertis à froid, triple filet à froid encadrant les plats, roulette à froid sur les coupes et les chasses, tranches marbrées, xxiv-510 pages (complet). Frottements angulaires, un mors légèrement fendu. Bon état. Édition revue et corrigée par l’auteur de ce texte d’expédition anthropologique qui contredit celui de Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Édition illustrée d’une carte en frontispice. L’ouvrage est riche d’informations sur les Incas, leur histoire, leur famille royale, leurs lois, leur armée, des données sur la géographie physique, l’histoire de la découverte du Pérou et de sa conquête par l’Espagne. William Hickling Prescott (1796-1859) est un historien américain spécialisé dans l'histoire du monde hispanique. Presque aveugle dès sa jeunesse, il décide tout de même d’être historien. Il publie sur la poésie italienne puis s’intéresse à l’Espagne à la suite de George Ticknor. Il est considéré comme un des premiers grands historiens américains. Provenance : De la bibliothèque de A. Dickson, avec un ex-praemio manucrit ,sur un feuillet blanc, de l’Eton College, “mathematical collection prize / Eton / Midsummer 1884 / Edward P. Rouse”. Bon exemplaire.

Ex-libris gravé par Birdsall. Traces de frottement aux coupes et aux coins. Papier parfaitement propre. Bel exemplaire.
