‎Première réédition depuis 1786. Le chevalier Girod de Chantrans (1750-1841) fut envoyé en 1781 à Saint-Domingue pour soutenir les Américains dans leur guerre d'Indépendance contre l'Angleterre. Il en rapporta son "Voyage d'un Suisse", publié en 1785 sous ce titre mystérieux pour éviter les foudres de la censure. ‎
