‎"Trois projets de fauteuils Art-Deco".‎

‎ 3 gouaches sur papier, 22.5 à 23 x 14.7 à 15 cm (format à vue), 38 x 30cm (format encadré), cadres argentés. ‎

‎BENGEL ART DECO SCHMUK. SCHMUK UND INDUSTRIE-DENKMAL, IDAR-OBERSTEIN / BENGEL ART DECO JEWELLERY. JEWELLERY AND INDUSTRIAL MONUMENT, IDAR-OBERSTEIN,‎

‎, Stuttgart, Arnoldsche, 2007, Bound, illustrated cardboard and dustjacket, frontispice in colour, 235 x 305mm., 216pp., beautiful and profound colour illustration GERMAN / ENGLISH TEXT. ISBN 9783897901797.‎

‎Art Deco Jewelry, Jakob Bengel, Idar-Oberstein (2nd ed.) in 2002. Until then entirely unknown, the costume-jewellery maker Jakob Bengel was thus introduced to the annals of jewellery history. The discovery of this Art Deco collection, that is unique in 1930s European jewellery, focused public attention on the business (est. 1873). Comprising a factory, with a villa for the proprietor and housing for the workforce, it had been preserved in its building, replete with machinery and tools as a relic of 1870s boom era costume jewellery. Turned into a cultural monument through the establishment of a foundation in 2001, today it makes 130 years of costume jewellery history come alive and is being successfully transformed into a centre for contemporary art jewellery. Rotating exhibitions, artists-in-residence and studios for young artists in jewellery link tradition and future at a unique place. This new publication showcases 100 hitherto unknown pieces of jewellery from the historic Art Deco collection owned by the Jakob Bengel company. The authors, however, approach both the past and the future of this unique industrial monument and the Art Deco jewellery made there. New book, text in German and English.‎

‎ART DECO CERAMICS IN BRITAIN,‎

‎, Suffolk, Antique Collector's Club, 2008, Bound, blue cloth with gold impression, illustrated dustjacket, illustrated inner platters, frontispice in colour, 225 x 280mm., 264pp., beautiful colour illustration troughout.‎

‎This book focuses on the art deco ceramics that were produced by the British pottery industry during the late twenties and early thirties. It covers all the important aspects of the popular style from its origins in France, its breakthrough in Britain and how the style took on during the early thirties. The background of art deco is examined and how it developed in France during the early part of the twentieth century: how European designers created new shapes and patterns and how these ideas eventually made their way into British design. Art Deco Ceramics in Britain looks at the well-established factories such as Josiah Wedgwood and Sons Ltd and Minton who produced the top of the range wares for the upper classes and how they were forced, due to market forces, to produce art deco styled wares. At the same time the smaller factories were able to respond quickly to the art deco style, using hand painted decoration, which was an important feature of art deco patterning with the big names such as Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper still being well known today. Also documented in the book are concise, yet comprehensive biographies of many smaller factories that are not so well known today. This listing provides an invaluable source for or ideas for new areas of collecting. New book. ‎

‎Art Deco and other Figures.‎

‎, Antique Collecters' Club, 2003 Hardback, dusjacket, 288 mm x 220 mm., Pages: 400., Illustrations: 121 colour, 1,133 b&w., New. ISBN 9781851493821.‎

‎This important book, now available in a revised edition, contains the most complete range of art deco figures ever published. It is based partly on the original importers' catalogues and partly on the wide range of pieces handled by the author Bryan Catley - the leading specialist in the subject. Between the wars an entirely modern style of decorative sculpture emerged which was a complete break with the heavy romantic late nineteenth century schools, and was totally in sympathy with the vibrant young society of the 1920s. The use of bronze and ivory for a great number of these sensual figures in no way obscures the fact that many are of exceptionally high quality; add to this their sense of movement and rhythm and one realises that the large sums they now command is a reflection of a discriminative international collectors market. Bryan Catley's original interest in the subject was fired when he inherited an art deco figure from his late grandmother's art collection. During his student days at engineering college and after he was inspired to go on and buy every figure he could afford. Later he and John Sparrow set up the business known as 'Catspa' which, for many years before their retirement, was synonymous with Art Deco sculpture.‎
