Première édition. Elle est illustrée d'un frontispice et de 31 gravures sur cuivre de Philipp Sadeler. Ce recueil d'emblèmes de style baroque est l'oeuvre des pères jésuites du Collège de Passau. Toutes les gravures sont de Philippe Sadeler, et portent sa signatures et la date de 1633. Dans un bel encadrement gravé et on y voit en bas de page une vue du collège des jésuites. Les gravures sont à pleine page, le verso est blanc et n'est pas compté dans la pagination. Comme toujours l'argent qui a servi à décorer la reliure est terni. Fine galerie de vers dans la marge intérieure de la page 108 à la fin sans atteinte à la partie imprimée. Jolie reliure strictement de l'époque. Bel exemplaire. /// In-4 de (3), 141, (31) pp. Velin rigide, dos à nerfs orné, décor à l'argent sur les plats avec encadrements et fleurons et un grand fer central, tranches dorées. (Reliure de l'époque.) //// First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 31 full-page copper engravings by Philipp Sadeler. This collection of Baroque-style emblems is the work of the Jesuit fathers of the College of Passau. All the engravings are by Philipp Sadeler and bear his signature and the date 1633. They are set within a beautiful engraved frame, and at the bottom of the page is a view of the Jesuit college. The engravings are full-page; the reverse side is blank and is not included in the pagination. As is often the case, the silver used to decorate the binding has tarnished. There is a fine gallery of worms in the inner margin from page 108 to the end, without damage to the printed text. A lovely binding strictly of the period. A very fine copy. USTC 2035147. Antverpiae, (Antwerpen) apud Petrum Bellerum, 1593, in-8°, 16 x 10 cm, title with woodcut vignet + (1)(bl) + 378 pp + (54)(last page bl.), full vellum, endpapers renewed, title page soiled, first 30 pp waterstained, slightly browned throughout, ex-library with small circular stamp on title. Notwithstanding these defects still an acceptable copy. USTC 406930. (Adams R.470, B.M.S.T.C. pp 176, Belgica Typographica 4162.) On the last fly leaf the previous owner made a note in pencil indicating that he bought this book in Paris at Vrin on 19th april 1961.
