London, november 1923, manuscript on paper (first 5 leaves on vellum) , format in-4°, 26 x 23 cm, (14) nn pp + ca. 250 pp ( the pages are numbered 1-82 and are e written, the pages which follow are unnumbered and blank). Page 6 is a full page coloured coat of arms ( on vellum). Bound in full red velvet. With a central clasps and 8 corner protections ; all executed in filigree silver work (filigrane). With the engraved ex-libris of Astley Terry on the first paste down, and a second engraved ex-libris from John Holden. The author sets out to describe the family history. In the introduction he complains about the lack of data about his forebears. Of his family members living in the 19th c. he is able to give us many interesting descriptions. The last entry is about his son also named Astley, born in 1896. The description contains long episodes of the Flemish battle fields ( Wytschate, Kemmelberg, Ypres, Menin ridge..ca. 10 pp .) Both father and son had military careers. The author expresses the wish that future family members might continue his work. This was obviously not done. One of the reasons might be that most of the children in the family were allways girls. Remarkable autobiographical document in a well preserved binding with nice and curious silver filigree ornamentations and a large clasp."‎

‎Londres, Longman, Green [printed by Spottiswoode], 1874 - 1882 4 vol. in-8, demi-chagrin vert à coins, dos à nerfs ornés de guirlandes, filets et caissons à motifs napoléoniens (N, abeilles) dorés, simple filet doré sur les plats, têtes dorées, premières couvertures et dos conservés (Birdsall, Northampton). Des coiffes frottées, charnière supérieure du vol. II frottée.‎

‎Édition originale de cette excellente biographie, parue peu de temps après la mort de Napoléon III (1873), et s'arrêtant aux événements de 1870. Aucune traduction française n'en a été donnée. Or, le journaliste William Blanchard Jerrold (1826-1884) résidait la plupart du temps à Paris à partir de l'Exposition universelle de 1855 qu'il couvrit pour plusieurs journaux londoniens ; sa biographie est très documentée, et s'alimente de son expérience directe. Il n'y a que la désaffection persistante pour le Second Empire, dont on commence seulement à se dégager de nos jours, qui puisse expliquer l'absence de traduction en français.I. x pp., 471 pp., 24 pp. de catalogue, avec 12 planches hors texte, dont 9 fac-similés et 3 portraits. - II. vi pp., un f. n. ch., 496 pp., 24 pp. de catalogue, avec 6 planches hors texte, dont 2 fac-similés. - III. vi pp., un f. n. ch., 478 pp., 2 pp. de catalogue, avec 3 planches hors texte, dont deux portraits. - IV. vi pp., un f. n. ch., 640 pp., 24 pp. de catalogue, avec 7 planches hors texte, dont 2 fac-similés.Exemplaire de la bibliophile américaine Julia Parker Wightman (1909-1994), membre du Hroswitha club comme du Grolier, avec belle vignette ex-libris à motif cynégétique contrecollée sur les premières gardes. Non contente de réunir une collection soignée (comprenant incunables, manuscrits enluminées, minuscules, enfantina), elle transforma une partie de la résidence familiale en atelier de reliure, où elle créa elle-même de nombreuses pièces. C'est la Morgan library qui hérita de ses collections après sa mort.Exemplaire enrichi au début du volume I d'un B.A.S. de Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte adressée au notaire Noël, en date du 12 février 1841. Écrite au fort de Ham, la courte missive enjoint à Me Noël de verser la somme de 900 francs à Forestier. - - VENTE PAR CORRESPONDANCE UNIQUEMENT‎
