<meta charset="utf-8"><span data-mce-fragment="1">Cette biographie sur Georgia O'Keeffe, rédigée par Marie Garraut, historienne de l’art, est publiée à l’occasion d’une exposition rétrospective organisée par le Centre Pompidou du 08 septembre au 6 décembre 2021, qui, pour la première fois en France, célèbre cette artiste unique, à l’œuvre inclassable. « Sentir l’Amérique, vivre l’Amérique, aimer l’Amérique », tel est le mantra de celle qui dans sa peinture a donné à ce continent sa propre voix. Georgia O’Keeffe pourrait être l’héroïne d’un roman d’aventures ou d’un western, tant elle a épousé la geste du Nouveau Monde. Et c’est comme un roman que se lit le récit de Marie Garraut, qui retrace avec la rigueur de l’historienne la trajectoire de cette écologiste avant l’heure, farouche incarnation de la femme émancipée et artiste dont l’oeuvre n’a cessé de se renouveler tout au long du xxe siècle.
