Edition with a map. Richly illustrated with engravings, town and village views, landscapes, mountains, mountaineering, glaciers, costumes, animals, railways, etc. The engraving ‘Fishing by Torchlight on the Swiss Lake (p.112, handcoloured). For this new edition much fresh material has been introduced and more than of thirty new illustrations have been added, a large proportion by Swiss artists. They will be found worthy to take their place alongside together with those by Mr. Whymper, which have been so greatly admired in the earlier editions. Probably third edition, without the preface.
