Appelé "le péripatéticien de Thubursicu", du nom de la localité de Numidie d'où il était originaire, Nonius était un grammairien et lexicographe de la fin du IIIe siècle de notre ère. Compilateur de ses prédécesseurs plus qu'auteur original, il a commis un curieux recueil appelé De Compendiosa doctrina en 20 sections ou chapitres, dont les douze premiers traitent de langue et de grammaire, les huit autres de sujets spéciaux (navigation, costume, nourriture, armes). Les sujets y sont présentés en ordre alphabétique, et forment un pot-pourri de lectures variées (et citées) : l'Hortensius de Cicéron, Aulu-Gelle, Verrius Flaccus, etc. L'ouvrage est intéressant en ce qu'il préserve des fragments d'anciens dramaturges, annalistes, satiristes et écrivains antiques qui seraient perdus sans lui.Édition absente de Brunet. - - VENTE PAR CORRESPONDANCE UNIQUEMENT
