VIe reeks, n? 111.Dit boek is een belangrijk standaardwerk over de rederijkersliteratuur, met name over de categorie van het zotte, die daarin een prominente plaats inneemt. Op zichzelf een onmisbaar instrument zijn de nauwkeurig verantwoorde inventarisatie en de beschrijving van de in handschrift overgeleverde en de gedrukte teksten, die het corpus, dankzij een veelzijdige bevraging, voor allerlei vormen van onderzoek openen (deel I). De interpretatie en classificatie van de teksten, het thema van deel II, brengt vanuit de driedeling in mimetisch-functionele, beschouwelijke en uitroeprefreinen een rijk geschakeerd net van subgenres en functies aan het licht. Deel III gaat in op het fenomeen van het zotte zoals het in de refreinvorm verschijnt. Een overzicht van de ontwikkeling van het genre met inachtneming van de context waarin deze evolutie plaatsheeft, sluit het boek af. De studie wordt ontsloten in talrijke studies.
