He achieved some literary fame with 'The wanderer of Switzerland' in 1806, against the annexation of that country by the French. The abolishment of slavery is the theme of his 'The West Indies', published 3 years later. He created a reconstruction of the world from the creation to the Deluge in his 'The world before the flood', published in 1812. The author states in his preface that he is 'under obligation of no other authority whatever'.
