Arte breve y muy provechoso de quenta castellana y arthmetica, donde se muestra las cinco reglas de guarismo por la quenta castellana, y reglas de memoria.

Cet "Art bref et très utile du calcul et de l'arithmétique en castillan" est un livre d'arithmétique commerciale. Il est un exemple de la transition des chiffres romains aux chiffres arabes, car il résout les problèmes en chiffres arabes (quenta aritmetica), mais donne son expression en chiffres romains (quenta castellana). Juan Gutiérrez de Gualda était prêtre d'un village de la province de Cuenca. Son livre d'arithmétique, publié pour la première fois à Tolède en 1539, a connu un grand succès et a été réimprimé plusieurs fois au XVIe siècle. C'est un livre d'usage, ainsi les exemplaires parvenus jusqu'à nous sont rares aujourd'hui. Illustré par 5 bois gravés à la fin. Portrait de Philippe II sur le titre. The book is an example of the transition from roman numerals to arabic numerals because it resolves the problems with arabics (quenta aritmetica), but it gives his expression in romans (quenta castellana). Juan Gutiérrez de Gualda was a priest of a village in Cuenca province. His book on arithmetic, first published in Toledo in 1539, was very successful and reprinted several times during the 16th c. It's a handbook, so surviving copies are rare today. Illustrated with 5 woodcuts at the end. Portrait of Philip II on the title.
