Prima edizione francese del 1790 di questa celebre opera sulla storia della mineralogia del geologo e mineralogista tedesco Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817). Dopo aver preso un dottorato in paleontologia a Lipsia Werner si dedicò allo studio dei minerali e stilò la prima classificaizone dei minerali basata sulla composizione chimica anzichè sugli aspetti morfologici. Fu inoltre il fondatore della teoria nettunista secondo la quale tutti i materiali presenti sulla crosta terrestre vi sarebbero stati deposittati in seguito al ritirarsi di un grande mare che originariamente ricopriva tutta la terra. Secondo Werner la Terra in origine era tutta ricoperta da un oceano primordiale. Traduzione a cura di Madame Guyton-Morveau considerata la migliore dell'epoca. In buone condizioni. He took a Phd in paleonthology and then elaborated a clasification of minerals based on chemincal compositions rather than morphological aspects. He believed that all the materials in terrestrial rust were left by a a big ocean that covered all the earth surface. Translation by Madame Guyton-Morveau considerd the best in that time. In good conditions. Full leather coeval cover with gilted title and decorations in the spine in fair general conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Lackings in the plates.
