Seconda edizione Giunta del 1574 di questo celebre trattato sulla coltivazione dell'olivo del letterato Piero Vettori (Firenze 1499-ivi 1585), il maggior rappresentante dell'Umanesimo cinquecentesco. La prima edizione venne pubblicata nel 1569. Aderente alla parte repubblicana, non fu accetto ai Medici rientrati a Firenze, sicché dal 1530 al 1532 si ritirò in una sua villa a S. Casciano. Nel 1538 fu però nominato da Cosimo lettore nello Studio, ufficio che esercitò sino al 1583. Fu eccellente insegnante; curò edizioni e commenti di molti scrittori greci e latini. Scrisse inoltre orazioni, epistole, poesie in latino: cultore del volgare, in questo lasciò un trattatello sulla coltivazione degli ulivi. Nell'opera egli dopo aver dibattuto sulle olive e il loro ruolo nel cibo e nell'economia rurale descrive la storia naturale dell'olivo, la sua cultura, coltivazione e illustra numerose varietà regionali. Antica firma di possesso al frontespizio (Giovanni Domenico Mazzolini da Barga (Barga 1721-?)) e antiche annotazioni manoscritte ai margini in volgare. In buone condizioni. Piero Vettori ((Firenze 1499-ivi 1585), is the most important representative of Humanism of 16th century. The first edition was published in 1569. After discussing olives and their role in food and rural economy, Vettori gives the natural history of the olive, describes its culture and harvest and explains various regional varieties. Ancient signature in the title page (Giovanni Domenico Mazzolini da Barga (Barga 1721-?)) and ancient handwritten notes in the edges in italian language. In good conditions.
