L'autore in questo volume raccoglie le biografie di John Donne, Henry Wotton, Richard Hooker, George Herbert, Robert Sanderson. Il testo è impreziosito da sei tavole fuori testo (cinque rappresentano i personaggi delle biografie e una le riproduzioni delle loro firme) incise da Bromley, Finden, Engleheart, Warren, Raddon. Ma la verà particolarità di questo esemplare è il "fore-edge painting" o "disegno a scomparsa", un dipinto sul taglio delle pagine che appare solamente tenendo il blocco di pagine tra il pollice e il resto delle dira e piegandolo in modo da allargare leggermente il bordo. Appaiono i dipinti dei personaggi descritti nell'opera. Da chiuso il volume sembra un normalissimo libro dai tagli dorati. Questo rende quest'opera unica. Questa tecnica era molto popolare verso il XVIII secolo per raggiungere il suo culmine fino all'inizio del XX secolo. In buone condizioni. Copertina in pelle con titolo in oro e decorazioni a secco ai piatti in discrete condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Lievi rotture alle cerniere. Legatura in buone condizioni. The author in this volume collects the biographies by John Donne, Henry Wotton, Richard Hooker, George Herbert, Robert Sanderson. the text is enriched by six out of text plates (five represent the carachetr reproduced and one the reproduction of their signature) engraved by Bromley, Finden, Engleheart, Warren, Raddon. But the real particularity of this work is the "fore-edge painting", a painting that appears only with a folding of fore edges. When closed the book is a common tome. In the book the portrait of people described in the biographies. This makes this work a unique book. This technique was very popular duraing 18th century to reach its peak to the beginning of 20th century. In good conditions. Leather cover with gilted title and decorations in the spine and embossed decorations in fair general conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Light cracks in the hidges. In-folio de [10]-269-[1]p., plein maroquin bordeaux, dos à nerfs orné de filets, fleurons dorés, plats très richement ornés de filets, fleurons et rinceaux dorés, petites pièces de maroquin vert aux angles, contre-plats doublés de maroquin de même teinte, richement orné à l'identique, gardes de soie moirée lie de vin, tête dorée (mors et coupes inférieures un peu frottés, un coin ouvert, petit manque à la coiffe).
