Edizione del 1864 di questo noto romanzo storico di Cesare Cantù (1804-1895). Il Cantù scrisse questo romanzo storico durante la sua prigionia nelle carceri austriache dal Novembre 1833 all'Ottobre 1834 a quel che si crede servendosi di carta destinata a servizi ben più modesti e facendo uso di stuzzicadenti come penne, e di nero fumo di candela come inchiostro (Parenti, Rarità bibliografiche dell'Ottocento, I, pp. 76-78 e V, pp. 87-92). L'opera, pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1838 ebbe da subito un notevole successo e fu tradotto in molte lingue. Il romanzo è ambientato nella Milano del XIV secolo sotto la Signoria dei Visconti e risente fortemente dell'influenza dei Promessi Sposi. L'opera è in un volume ed è completa. Bel frontespizio figurato e ritratto di Cantu. In mediocri condizioni. Copertina in mezza tela in mediocri condizioni generali con usure ai margini e dorso assente. Piatti quasi del tutto staccati. Legatura in mediocri condizioni con rotture. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con fioriture. Segni di tarlo al contropiatto. In 16. cm 15,5x10. The work, published for the first time in 1838, was a great success and was translated in different languages. The novel is placed in the Milan of the XIV century under the Signoria dei Visconti and is highly influenced by Promessi Sposi The work is in one volume and it is complete. Beautiful figurated title page and portrait of Cantu. In poor conditions. Half cloth cover in poor general conditions lightly worn in the extremities and spine missing. Binding in poor conditions with cracks. Inside pages are in good conditions with foxing. Worming in the counterplate. In 16. cm 15,5x10. Pp. 477+(1).
