Finissima edizione illustrata del 1685 di questa raccolta di opere del filosofo francese René Descartes (1596-1650). L'opera, composta con l'intento di sostitutirsi al modello aristotelico utilizzato nelle Università inglesi e francesi, espone il rivoluzionario concetto per cui "in assenza di forze esterne il moto di un oggetto sarà uniforme e in linea retta", principio che Newton stesso estrapolò per inserirlo nei suoi Principia e che viene generalmente collegato al suo "Primo pincipio della dinamica". All'interno le seguenti opere con frontespizio proprio: Principiorum philosohpiae; Specimina philosophiae seu dissertatio de methodo dioptrice et meteora; Passiones animae; Meditationes de prima philosophia; appendix continens objectiones in meditationes de prima philosophia; Epistola Renati Descartes ad celeberrimum virum D.
