Bella mappa del 1720 circa dell'Italia acquarellata coeva tratta dal "Nouveau Theatre de l'Italie", edizione di Pierre Mortier. La mappa, una delle più dettagliate e scientificamente accurate del tempo è stata disegnata dal geografo Guillaulme de lIsle (1675-1726), figlio e pupillo del famoso astronomo e cartografo francese Jean Dominique Cassini, con il quale si dedicò ad importanti studi sul calcolo delle longitudini. Le carte del de lIsle sono caratterizzate dallestrema precisione e da unaccuratezza della toponimia, e sebbene molto precise conservano il fascino e leleganza della storia e furono la base della successiva cartografia anche in Olanda e in Italia. La tipografia Covens e Mortier acquisì molto del materiale cartografico del De LIsle, forse anche perché Mortier era di origine francese. Beautiful map of 1720 circa of Italy cowval colouring taken from "Nouveau Theatre de l'Italie", edition by Pierre Mortier. the map, one of the most detailed and accurate of its time has been drawn by the geographer Guillaulme de lIsle (1675-1726), son and pupil of the french astronomer and cartographer Jean Dominique Cassini. The maps of de lIsle are acarcterized by and extreme precision, and even if they preserve the elegance of history and were the bases of upcoming cartography in Holland and Italy. The typography Covens and Mortier adquired many maps of De LIsle, perhaps for the french origin of Mortier.
