It occupies much of the western United States and Mexico, ranging from Oregon and Idaho to the area of Mexico City, with isolated outposts farther south. Within Uto-Aztecan I have limited my primary consideration to twenty daughter languages, chosen on the basis of availability of information and fullest possible representation of subfamilies."
