Nikolai Yevgenyevich Virta (real name Karelian) (1906-1976), Russian Soviet writer. Recipient of four Stalin prizes (1941, 1948, 1949, 1950). Born into a family of a rural priest. Started printing in 1923. Virts first and best novel, Solitude (1935, State Prize of the USSR, 1941, based on his novel Earth, 1937), is about the historical doom of the kulak rebellion in Tamboshchina during the Civil War.
