Antverpiae [Antwerpen], apud Ioannem Cnobbaert 1635 [42] + 1139 + [i] pp., first and only edition, 22cm., contemporary overlapping full vellum binding which is in tact and in good condition (less a small defect on front cover), red edges, title in black and red, engraved vignette on title page, text clean and bright with only few occasional light stains, good condition, [Philippus Rovenius 1574-1651, catholic priest, archbishop of Philippi (1620) and Apostolic Vicar of Holland, played an important role in the propagation of Roman Catholic faith in the 17th cy. Dutch protestant Republic. Since it was impossible to establish a seminary in Holland at that time, Rovenius was convinced that publications such as his "Institutiones christianae pietatis" could contribute in great part to the 'devotional education' of (future) priests (and lay man).
