Printed in the ''Bremer type'' designed by L. Hoell. The illustrations are designed by S. Frank, the initials are by Fr. Thiersch. Bound in full red morocco, raised spine with only the words '' Missale Romano'' in gilt on spine, All edges gilt, The missel is generally in fine condition. The binding has some minimal traces of use, the upper inner joint shows some weakness, some of the many leather bookmark tags are missing. The missal was obviously carefully handled by the first user. The Canon part of the missal (daily used) shows no particular traces of use.. Ildefons Herwegen was the abbott of the Maria Laach abbey from 1913 until his death in 1946. Under his influence Maria Laach became the centre of the Roman Catholic renewal in Germany. This movement stressed the importance of liturgy and contributed to its modernisation. Wintersig , who cooperated on this missal, coined the famous phrase : ''Das Volk hat keine andere Theologie als die Liturgie''. The editing and publication of this missal is probably the most important tangible result of the movement. Abstaining from comment on the textual contents we stress here the fine typography and the great care taken to publish this momumental work. In our knowledge it is the only missal with a 5 page long detailed index and a colophon explaining the typographical details of the publication.
