‎ #Antwerpen, Nederlandsche Boekhandel, 1900, 5 vols in-4°, 30 x 24,5 cm, each vol. ca. 275 pp, with b/w ills & a total of 27 original etchings by Zilcken, (complete), Publisher's softcover (decorated vellum paper). Some volumes slightly disbound, spines dusty and with some minor loss of paper, a few unimportant stains but overall still a good copy. This important survey consists of a series of articles by various well-known writers on the life and works of the most celebrated Dutch & Flemish painters of the 19th century, with a summary of the entire schools by Max Rooses. Each volume contains the essays and reproductions of 12 artists. Their names are listed on the spines of the volumes. Each essay is illustrated with b/w text-ills, full page photo engravings and a total of 27 original engravings, these etchings are works of graphic art in themselves and constitute very good examples of the art of engraving in Holland at the end of the 19th century.
