Only edition of this book, bound in contemporary full calf, with large gilt supra libro on both covers - arms of the county of Flanders , raised gilt spine, binding a bit worn at extremities, upper joint split but still holding. Interior fine. This book is the very last publication in a long series, spanning 275 years. It relates the splendid ceremony which was organised upon the investiture of the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Leopold II of Habsburg-Lotheringen as count of Flanders in Ghendt. Barely 7 months after this inauguration the emperor was death and the French revolutionary armies were to invade the country at the end of the year ( November 1792). It marks the end of a series of publications on these ceremonies which started in 1515. Landwehr, in his bibliography '' Splendid Ceremonies...'' lists 288 similar publications.
