Bruxelles, Institut National de Géographie, 1885, in-8°, 17,5 x 11 cm, 270 pp + 2 large folding maps, bound in contemporary red half roan, raised spine with gilt title, marbled boards and endpapers. Ex-library with a stamp on the half-title and on page 5. Two small tears in the first map. On the whole still a fine/good copy. This study was made in the wake of the 1884 Berlin Conference on Africa. It starts with a short history of slavery in Africa. One of the reasons to publish this study was certainly to prepare the public opinion for the creation of an independant Congo State by King Leopold II of Belgium - commander in chief of ''Colonel Wauwermans ''.‎
