".: 18. Londini (London), 1701, Aunshami ed Johan Churchill, 1701, in-folio, 32 x 20,5 cm, engraved frontispiece portrait (by Brounover) + (26) nn pp + 317 pp, pagination errors ; 65-68 repeated, 165-172 omitted, 232 called 223 ; title page with two 18th century manuscript ex-libris. Contemporary full mottled calf, raised gilt back, red leather title label, edges painted red. Binding with some slight traces of wear, an unobtrusive marginal waterstain in the inner margin at the end of the book but still a very fine copy. This is the first Latin edition of Locke's ''Essay on human understanding'' based on the 4th English edition. The translation is from the hand of Ezekiel Burridge. An important publication because, together with the French translation (from 1700) this made Locke's text known outside England. (See Attig 421)."
